Detention & Retention Systems

Subsurface detention/retention systems are often used as a more efficient use of land, rather than the use of a pond. A pond takes up a large amount of space, rending it unusable for anything other than stormwater storage, whereas the use of a subsurface system leaves the surface land available to be developed. Often times retention/detention ponds have many pitfalls such as safety concerns, stagnate water, lack of available ground space for development, etc. The use of a subsurface system alleviates most or all of those concerns.

Benefits of subsurface detention/retention systems are, but not limited to:

  • Effective use of developable land
  • Reduction of safety concerns/hazards
  • H20 & H25 loading capacities
  • Cost-effective
  • Can be customized
  • Ease of maintenance
  • Long term durability

Haviland Drainage Products is happy to work with you and your engineer in developing the best subsurface system to suit your needs. Systems can be built with 12″ through 60″ HDPE Dual wall pipe

Haviland’s Smooth Flow pipe & ecoChambers can be easily modeled with the HydroCAD Stormwater Modeling System, allowing simplified calculation of the chamber’s storage and infiltration behavior.  The HydroCAD Chamber Wizard also performs automated chamber system layout and simplifies the process of designing a chamber system meeting specific storage and footprint requirements.  CLICK HERE for details.
